Stilettos on Wheels – this Sat!
Guest Blog by Grace of Stilettos on Wheels
Our MD will be down there on the day, doing a lap or two, and sharing the bike for others to have a go – come and say ‘hello’, try our bikes and meet lots of fab people!
“Chocolate or vanilla? A giant stiletto or a giant bicycle? Hot pink or baby pink? So many choices to make when designing a special event cake! And Stilettos On Wheels really is a very special event. And obviously a very well organised one, which is why I’ve got time to contemplate the perfect cake to bake. Well, it is run by women.
The girls-only mountain bike race, Stilettos On Wheels (SOW), will be held at Stanmer Park, Brighton, on Saturday September 8th. With 70 riders signed up so far and more expected on the day, the event is set for success. There will be a two-hour and a four-hour race, both with solo and pairs categories, around the three mile course of Stanmer woodland. As the focus is on fun and creating a supportive racing environment, sections of the course will be signed easier and harder to ensure there is something for everyone. As SOW mascot Poppy – a work of art created by the illustrious illustrator Jo Burt – says ‘Give it a go!’

The main arena should also be providing something for everyone from trade stands showcasing the latest biking kit and equipment, to mechanical support (including puncture fixing!), and from pre-race physiotherapy to tea, cake and face painting! The latter will be in aid of Rockinghorse, a Brighton-based children’s charity. Also in the arena will be the chance to buy raffle tickets to win a Bamboo Bikes XC MTB frame – this generously donated prize will make a fantastic bike for one lucky individual!
Race day is fast approaching so I better get busy making decisions on that cake…or maybe I’ll just make two!
